Sparkle Sandy Springs had its humble debut in 2017 with the Sparkle Village, a month-long display of decorated miniature houses, and a tree lighting. The event was held on Heritage Amphitheatre Lawn, and it drew about 500 people.
As years went on, the event quickly outgrew the initial space. In 2019, the event was moved to City Green. The 12’ tree grew to 40’, and a celebration of Hanukkah with a menorah lighting was added to the program. Best of all, the City introduced the Sparkle Sandy Springs Holiday Parade.
In 2019, the Southeast Tourism Society named Sparkle Sandy Springs one of the STS Top 20 Events in the Southeast.
In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the parade turned inside out and became a drive-thru holiday extravaganza. Galambos Way became a snow tunnel, and holiday "floats" waved to guests driving down the road.
In 2021, the event returned to its original format, adding snow machines, a holiday concert, food trucks and a gift market. Attendance estimates were now closer to 5,000 - 6,000 people.
In 2023, Skate City Springs added to City Green, drawing over 6,000 ice skaters throughout the season. In addition, Sparkle Wonderland was added to the celebration, featuring larger-than-life parade balloons and walk-around characters.
The Southeast Tourism Society named Sparkle Sandy Springs one of the STS Top 20 Events in the Southeast for December 2019.
In 2024, TimeOut nominated Sandy Springs as one of the 10 Best Christmas Cities (TimeOut website) and Sparkle Sandy Springs was Best of Georgia Regional Winner in the Festivals category.
