SANDY SPRINGS TO HOST MORNING BIRD WATCHING ACTIVITIES

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (July 6, 2022) – In partnership with Georgia Audubon, the City of Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks Department is hosting the following bird watching activities at Morgan Falls Overlook Park:

  • The Bird Walk on Saturday, July 16 at 8 a.m. Morgan Falls Overlook Park boasts several habitats attracting a large variety of birds throughout the year: mudflats (shorebirds, including avocets in 2017), lake (winter ducks, nesting bald eagles), river, woodland, and field (sparrows). The walk will involve grass (possibly wet), stairs, gently sloped pavement, and unpaved trails. A scope and loaner binoculars will be available. Cost: Free.
  • The Best Nest program on Monday, July 18 at 9 a.m. will allow participants to investigate the nesting cycle, from making a nest to keeping the babies fed. Get an up-close look at several different types of nests and learn about the obstacles birds face when raising their young. Participants will also learn how they can help nest birds in their backyard. Cost: $10.

Note: Interested participants are asked to please register at least three days in advance.
