City Departments and Staff

Approximately 370 professionals work on the City's behalf in the areas of municipal services, operations and public safety. Below is a list of departments, a brief overview of what they do, and key contacts.  To reach any department via phone, please call our 24/7 Call Center at 770.730.5600.

City Management

The City Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the day-to-day city operations.

City Clerk's Office

The City Clerk is the official record keeper for the City, including recording and maintaining the council's official actions in minutes, coordinating and distributing the agenda, maintaining contracts, ordinances, resolutions and agreements and coordinating the records management and retention program for the City.

Communication and Media

The Communications Department serves as the liaison with the community, coordinating public affairs, public relations, marketing, and media relations.

Community Development

The Community Development department is comprised of four divisions: Planning and Zoning, Building and Land Development, Code Compliance, and Permitting.

Building Division

The Building Division oversees all construction permitting, building plan reviews, building inspections, and issuing Certificates of Occupancy in compliance with local and state laws.

Land Development

The Land Development Division oversees site plan reviews, site inspections, stream buffer determination, stormwater maintenance agreements, environmental compliance and tree canopy compliance.

Planning and Zoning

Planning and Zoning is responsible for the development and implementation of rules and regulations found in the City’s Development Code and Comprehensive Plan related to the development of property.

Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement addresses a wide range of issues that affect the environment, our health and safety, property values and general well-being.  The objective of Code Enforcement is to obtain voluntary compliance.

Economic Development

The Economic Development office is the caregiver of our business community, working hard to attract new business and to retain existing business within the City.

Caroline Davis

Facilities

The Facilities Department is charged with taking care of the maintenance and security of city-owned facilities.

Finance

The Finance Department provides the fiduciary oversight and support in managing the fiscal activities of the City, including preparation of the City's budget, annual audit, payroll and payments to City vendors.

Revenue Division – Taxes and Licenses

The Revenue Division of the Finance Department assists business owners obtain and renew their mandatory Business Occupational Tax Certificate, also known as a Business License. There may additional requirements for businesses who sell alcohol, rent accommodations and vehicles. This department facilitates these other licenses/fees.

Purchasing Division

The Purchasing Office assists with the acquisition of all products and services from outside commercial organizations and vendors.  Primarily, the focus is formal solicitations for construction, professional services, and the review all contracts to be signed by Sandy Springs.

Fire Department

The mission of the City of Sandy Springs Fire Department is to provide the highest level of fire and emergency services to our citizens and visitors with highly trained, caring personnel. Striving  to provide excellent customer service in response, education, prevention and professional services, we abide by the motto: outstanding service by outstanding people.

Human Resources

The Human Resources department oversees employment opportunities within City Hall and manages HR duties for Public Safety personnel and City staff. As part of the Public-Private-Partnership, recruiting for general city services are conducted by private companies with human resources for those staff members managed by their respective companies.

Information Services

The IT Department handles the City's internal technology systems and protocols.

Municipal Court

Sandy Springs Municipal Court considers the fair and timely adjudication of cases among its top priorities. Paramount is a customer-driven, service-oriented atmosphere in which victims, defendants and all other customers are treated with the utmost respect and concern, by a highly trained, efficient staff. 

Cheston Roney

Police

The Sandy Springs Police Department is charged with the safety and security of residents and visitors to the City. Operations are coordinated from two districts; north and south. Each district is commanded by district captains and is comprised of four patrol zones.

Public Works

The Public Works Department protects, preserves and maintains the City's infrastructure. Of particular focus are: transportation including pavement care and traffic control, stormwater and sidewalks.

Marty Martin

Stormwater Division

Stormwater Management Systems encompass any of the devices used to collect, treat or dispose of storm, flood or surface drainage waters.

Transportation Services

Oversees the City's Transportation Capital Improvement Program Planning and reviews transportation related permits.  Oversees the Traffic Management Center.

Field Services

Oversees pavement and bridge maintenance/repair, and emergency road services, as well as coordinates with utility companies.

Capital Improvement Programs

Manages capital improvement infrastructure projects.

Recreation and Parks

The City’s Recreation and Parks department takes care of the City's 16 parks, including development of new play areas.  Rec & Parks also handles the creation and implementation of the many youth and adult programming and activities found within our parks, including after school activities and summer camps.
