Voting And Elections

Voter Registration

The Fulton County Voter Registration Office, 404-730-7072, handles voter registration for all Fulton County residents regardless of whether you reside in a city, such as Sandy Springs, or live in an unincorporated area of Fulton County. You must be registered to vote in an election and must be registered as a resident of the area in which you intend to vote. In addition, you must be registered at least 29 days prior to the Election date.

To register to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States, a legal resident of the State of Georgia and of the county in which you wish to vote, and you must be at least 17.5 years of age (must be 18 years of age to cast a ballot). You may not register if you are serving a sentence for a conviction of a felony offense or if you have been found mentally incompetent by a judge.

Registration is also offered when you renew or apply for your driver’s license at the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety driver’s license locations. College students can obtain Georgia voter registration forms, or the necessary forms to register in any state in the U.S., from their schools in the office of the School Registrar or from the office of Vice President of Academic Affairs.

How do I confirm my registration status?

To confirm your registration status, visit the My Voter Page on Georgia Secretary of State website.

Georgia Voters are required to show one of six forms of valid photo identification when voting in person, during the absentee or advanced voting period or at the polls on Election Day.

The valid forms of identification are as follows:

  • A Georgia's driver's license (even if expired);
  • A valid State or federal government photo ID;
  • A valid U.S. passport;
  • A valid government employee photo ID (city, county, state or U.S. government);
  • A valid U.S. military photo ID;
  • A valid Tribal photo ID

Voters who do not have any of the above IDs may obtain an official Georgia Voter photo ID card free of charge at any Georgia Department of Driver Services or the Fulton County Registration and Elections Department. Voters may contact Georgia's Department of Driver Services at 678-413-8400, 678-413-8500, or 678-413-8600 to obtain an ID card. An ID card may also be obtained from the Fulton County Government Center, North Fulton Service Center and South Fulton Service Center. Proof of Georgia residency, registered voter status, and documentation of the date of birth is required for issuance of the Voter ID card. The Georgia Voter ID card is valid for voting purposes only.
