Tents, Canopies and other membrane structures
An inspection and permit is required for the erection and use of a tent or tents in excess of 200 square feet (with sides); and canopies in excess of 400 square feet (without sides) that will be inhabited by the public.Tents, and in some cases canopies, may be required to provide many life safety features used in fixed buildings. These include: illuminated exit signs, aisles, fire extinguishers, fire lanes, etc. The tent or canopy fabric must be of a certified flame retardant material. No cooking is allowed inside tents or under canopies.
