Stream Walks
Stream walks are conducted to evaluate stream and creek conditions throughout Sandy Springs.
In September 2017, representatives from River 2 Tap (R2T) evaluated stream segments across the city as part of an effort to identify and address issues contributing to creek impairments and to better understand watershed conditions.
The following creeks are currently listed on the Federal Clean Water Act Section 303(d) list of impaired streams due to elevated bacteria levels:
- Crooked Creek
- Ball Mill Creek
- Marsh Creek
- Long Island Creek
- Nancy Creek

How You Can Help Protect Local Waterways
- Dispose of litter properly. Never dump materials onto streets, into storm drains, or into drainage ditches.
- Pick up pet waste, bag it, and dispose of it in the trash.
- Compost or bag grass clippings and leaves for curbside collection.
- Use fertilizers and pesticides sparingly.
- Wash vehicles over grassy areas or at commercial car washes that recycle water instead of washing vehicles on driveways.
- Maintain septic systems regularly to help prevent leaks.
- Check vehicles for leaks and repair them promptly. Properly recycle used motor oil and other automotive fluids.
