Transportation Improvements

Transportation improvement projects are ongoing throughout the City.

There are more than 315 miles of roadways within the Sandy Springs local street network. Since incorporation in 2005, the City has resurfaced more than 170 miles of roadway.

In addition, the City has completed more than 42 intersection improvement projects, installed 32 miles of traffic fiber infrastructure, and manages 129 traffic signals through its Traffic Management Center.

Interstate 285 and Georgia State Routes 400 and 9 (Roswell Road) also pass through Sandy Springs. These highways are maintained by the State of Georgia.

Featured Projects

The Public Works Department is responsible for the City’s transportation systems, including road and right-of-way maintenance, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and capital improvement implementation.

The department also works with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) on regional transportation infrastructure projects and is responsible for the City’s stormwater infrastructure.
