Riverview Road/Northside Drive Intersection Improvements

STATUS:  Northside Drive open; Old Powers Ferry & Riverview Roads remain closed through duration of construction; Construction ongoing

9/13/2023 Update: Crews are currently relocating utilities at the project site. Contractors and city staff coordinate carefully with each utility company to schedule the relocation of utilities. The movement of utilities is vital to the completion of the project. They may not all be visible, but these various lines take up more room than you may think underground and overhead. Relocating utilities provides construction crews adequate space to safely construct the roundabout.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The current intersection is controlled by a two-way stop sign. There are sight distance issues throughout the intersection and a significant problem with side street delay on Riverview Road.

The City conducted a comprehensive traffic study as part of the concept design process.  The results of the study show that the existing intersection performs poorly in both the morning and afternoon peak travel hours.  There is insufficient stopping sight distance on Northside Drive, north of the intersection. The project will alleviate these issues by realigning the intersection and adding a roundabout. A public open house was held in February 2018.

If you have any questions regarding the project, please call our 24/7 Citizen Response Center at 770-730-5600.
