Proper Pruning Practices

Pruning Standards:

· All cuts must serve a defined purpose (e.g., hazard reduction, deadwood removal).

· Dormant-season pruning is preferred; exceptions apply to urgent cases.

· Cuts should respect the branch collar to encourage proper healing.

· Crown reduction must not exceed 25% of live foliage in one season.

· Topping is prohibited.

Residents are encouraged to consult certified arborists for significant pruning or removal.

For questions or to submit a Tree Fund request, contact the Urban Forest Coordinator via the Department of Recreation & Parks or call (770) 730-5600.
