Proper Pruning Practices

Pruning Standards

  • All cuts must serve a defined purpose (e.g., hazard reduction, deadwood removal).
  • Dormant-season pruning is preferred; exceptions apply to urgent cases.
  • Cuts should respect the branch collar to encourage proper healing.
  • Crown reduction must not exceed 25% of live foliage in one season.
  • Topping is prohibited.

Residents are encouraged to consult certified arborists for significant pruning or removal.

For questions or to submit a Tree Fund request, contact the Urban Forest Coordinator via the Department of Recreation & Parks or call (770) 730-5600.
