Description
The Path 400 Multiuse Trail will extend the existing 5.1-mile path from Loridans Drive north to the GA 400/I-285 interchange.
Status – Spring 2026
Construction is underway on Segments 1 and 3 and is expected to be completed in early 2028.
Segment 2 received an $18 million investment from the Atlanta Regional Commission in 2025, enabling construction bidding. A contractor has been selected, and construction on Segment 2 is expected to begin in Summer 2026 and take approximately three years to complete.
Project Description
The Path 400 Multiuse Trail will extend the existing 5.1-mile path from Loridans Drive north to the GA 400/I-285 interchange. The path will be built primarily within the existing Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) right-of-way along GA 400. The extension will also provide connectivity to proposed multiuse paths on Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Mt. Vernon Highway.
The Path 400 project is included within the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) program approved by voters in Sandy Springs and Fulton County as part of the November 2016 referendum. The project was also included in the voter-approved TSPLOST 2 referendum in November 2021.
Project Updates
April 2026 – Sandy Springs City Council Approves Construction Agreement
The City Council approved a construction agreement between the City of Sandy Springs and the Georgia Department of Transportation for the portion of the Path 400 Multiuse Trail Extension from Windsor Parkway to just north of Baroque Circle.
December 2025 – Sandy Springs City Council Approves Construction Contract
The City Council approved a contract award in the amount of $15,758,413 to F.S. Scarbrough for the construction of Segment 2. Construction of the segment is funded through local funds and federal funds provided through the Georgia Department of Transportation.
May 2025 – Sandy Springs City Council Approves Funding Agreement with the Atlanta Regional Commission
The agreement provides an $18 million investment from the Atlanta Regional Commission, with matching funds from the City of Sandy Springs to fully fund the construction of Segment 2.
August 2024 – Sandy Springs City Council Approves Construction Agreement with GDOT
The agreement outlines the expectations and requirements for both parties related to the receipt of federal funds for construction of the project. GDOT is the direct recipient of funds from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and will provide project oversight and administer the funds.
May 2024 – Sandy Springs City Council Approves Construction Contract
The City Council approved a contract award in the amount of $20,150,923.94 to F.S. Scarbrough. Construction of this project is funded through a combination of local and federal funds through the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Additionally, on January 2, 2024, the City approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Atlanta to pay for a portion of the project that will be constructed within Atlanta city limits.
The Path 400 Trail Extension is the northern segment of PATH 400, a 5.2-mile walkable and bikeable trail being constructed adjacent to State Route 400. It will extend from Loridans Drive to the southern part of the City of Sandy Springs inside the Perimeter. The proposed project will construct a 1.8-mile portion of the trail located within Sandy Springs, which will ultimately total 2.3 miles.
The project has been divided into three segments, the limits of which have been adjusted to fully utilize current construction funding. Segments 1 and 3 will be constructed as part of this phase of the project. Segment 2 received an $18 million investment from the Atlanta Regional Commission, which the City is matching, providing the funding necessary to construct this segment of Path 400. Construction on Segment 2 is expected to begin in Summer 2026 and take approximately three years to complete.

The City of Sandy Springs hosted two public meetings to provide the community with information about the proposed Path 400 Multiuse Trail Extension. The first meeting was held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, from 10:00 a.m.–noon. A second town hall meeting was held the same day from 6:00–8:00 p.m.
Both meetings covered the same content and were held at Highpoint Episcopal Community Church, 4945 High Point Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30342. Residents participated in an interactive design charrette and had the opportunity to view maps, provide input, and ask questions about the project.
