(August 2, 2023) — The City of Sandy Springs Mayor and City Council today announce their intention to increase the property taxes it will levy this year by 8.01 percent over the rollback millage rate.
\n\n
Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property in the county. When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicates there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment.
\n\n
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year's digest that last year's millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.
\n\n
The budget tentatively adopted by the City of Sandy Springs Mayor and Council requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate; therefore, before the City of Sandy Springs may finalize the tentative budget and set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.
\n\n
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase, to be held at Sandy Springs City Hall, 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs, Georgia, on the following dates:
\n\n
\n
August 14, 2023, at 8:30 a.m.
\n
August 15, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
\n
August 22, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. (final public hearing and adoption)
\n
","summary":"The City of Sandy Springs announces a proposed 8.01 percent property tax increase and schedules three public hearings in August 2023 for community input."},"cta":null,"metatag":[{"attributes":{"name":"title","content":"Sandy Springs Notice of Property Tax Increase"}},{"attributes":{"name":"description","content":"The City of Sandy Springs announces a proposed 8.01 percent property tax increase and schedules three public hearings in August 2023 for community input."}}],"srcSet":{"ratio16x9":{"links":{"w344_16_9":{"href":"https://live-unified-platform.pantheonsite.io/sites/default/files/styles/w344_16_9/public/2023-08/sandy-springs-logo-background.jpg?h=60f5eac7"},"w1088_16_9":{"href":"https://live-unified-platform.pantheonsite.io/sites/default/files/styles/w1088_16_9/public/2023-08/sandy-springs-logo-background.jpg?h=60f5eac7"},"w615_16_9":{"href":"https://live-unified-platform.pantheonsite.io/sites/default/files/styles/w615_16_9/public/2023-08/sandy-springs-logo-background.jpg?h=60f5eac7"},"w817_16_9":{"href":"https://live-unified-platform.pantheonsite.io/sites/default/files/styles/w817_16_9/public/2023-08/sandy-springs-logo-background.jpg?h=60f5eac7"},"w986_16_9":{"href":"https://live-unified-platform.pantheonsite.io/sites/default/files/styles/w986_16_9/public/2023-08/sandy-springs-logo-background.jpg?h=60f5eac7"}}},"alt":"City of Sandy Springs logo"},"relationships":{"type":{"name":"News"},"field_tags":[{"name":"Press Release","relationships":{"parent":[{"name":"Sandy Springs News"}]}}]},"field_date":{"value":"August 2, 2023"},"field_long_title":"Sandy Springs Notice of Property Tax Increase – August 2023"}},"pageContext":{"slug":"/news/sandy-springs-notice-property-tax-increase"}},"staticQueryHashes":["1413031684","1419465866","171188893","1898769931","2277259475","2391788990","2930285144","3009090991","3276874092","3290541562","3434133909","3584882192","3909622830"]}
