Overlook Park Rain Garden

Project Info

The City recently completed construction of a rain garden at Morgan Falls Overlook Park. The rain garden is located next to the High Country boat shed at the back of the parking lot at Overlook Park. This rain garden naturally filters storm water runoff from Morgan Falls Road before it enters into the Chattahoochee River. The garden was planted with deep-rooted native plants, grasses, and shrubs. The plant life absorbs organic pollutants, such as fertilizers and pet waste, while providing food and habitat for butterflies and other pollinators. Once the storm water passes through the soil, pipes carry the water underground to the Chattahoochee River.

Background

The enhancements included a rain garden, a 14-foot high, tri-colored modular block retaining wall, a monument sign wall, and landscaping from Overlook Park to the Morgan Falls Apartments. To help fund the project, the City received a $500,000 Federal Transportation Enhancement grant through the Georgia Department of Transportation.
