Overlook Park Rain Garden

Project Information

The City recently completed construction of a rain garden at Morgan Falls Overlook Park.

The rain garden is located near the High Country boat shed at the rear of the parking lot within Overlook Park.

The garden naturally filters stormwater runoff from Morgan Falls Road before the water enters the Chattahoochee River.

The rain garden was planted with deep-rooted native plants, grasses, and shrubs designed to absorb pollutants such as fertilizers and pet waste while also providing habitat and food sources for butterflies and other pollinators.

After stormwater filters through the soil, underground pipes carry the treated water to the Chattahoochee River.

Project Background

The project enhancements included:

  • A rain garden
  • A 14-foot-high tri-colored modular block retaining wall
  • A monument sign wall
  • Landscaping improvements extending from Overlook Park to the Morgan Falls Apartments

To help fund the project, the City received a $500,000 Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant through the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).
