Sandy Springs to Hold Virtual Event Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

January 6, 2022

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (Jan. 6, 2022) – The City of Sandy Springs will hold its annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. virtually through a video presentation on Monday, Jan. 17.

“Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, it is not wise to gather at this time, particularly with so many young people scheduled to be in attendance,” said Mayor Rusty Paul. “Instead, we’ll move forward with an encore presentation of last year’s video tribute to celebrate the life and work of Dr. King. Furthermore, we eagerly anticipate holding this event in person in 2023.”

Now in its 16th year of celebrating the life and work of Dr. King, the City had planned a family-friendly event featuring interactive art projects and a film designed to celebrate, educate and share the teachings of Dr. King.

“Dr. King believed that even the smallest amount of encouragement and support to help someone in need mattered,” said Paul. “The City’s tribute to Dr. King aims to teach our next generation of his works, and how they can help make a positive impact on our community.”

This annual event is designed to engage children and their families with learning opportunities based on the teachings of Dr. King.
