Sandy Springs to Host Public Open House on Future of Abernathy Arts Center

October 17, 2023

The existing stone arts building needs significant repairs and upgrades. The public will have the opportunity to learn more about the unsafe and unstable condition of the stone arts building and the proposed state-of-the-art replacement facility that will add art programming spaces to the site.

WHEN: Monday, Oct 30, 6-8 p.m.

WHERE: Sandy Springs City Hall, Studio Theatre, 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs, Ga. 30328

BACKGROUND:

In 2021, the Sandy Springs Public Facilities Authority approved the transfer of the Abernathy Arts Center from Fulton County as part of a quit claim deed. In 2022, The City of Sandy Springs approved an agreement with Art Sandy Springs, Inc. (ArtSS) to provide arts programming at the Abernathy Arts Center. ArtSS has partnered with the City to reopen the Center and re-start the popular art programming that had been a staple at this former Fulton County facility.

The property is approximately 3.59 acres and is currently developed with three buildings: a single-story, former residential structure on a partial basement that is about 4,722 sq ft., a garage with a studio above, and a single-story steel framed 5,000 sq ft. Annex Building. The site also has tennis courts, a small playground, and a parking lot.
