Sandy Springs Approves Fire Station Construction Contract

During its Sept. 20 meeting, the Sandy Springs City Council approved a construction contract to build a new fire station at 7800 Mount Vernon Road.  The $8,020,000 contract was awarded to Cooper and Company.

Fire Station #5 will be located at the intersection of Spalding Drive and Spalding Road. The fire station will be a two-story structure consisting of approximately 10,912 square feet.  It will contain a two-bay apparatus storage room, decontamination showers, gear wash areas, gear storage, and other associated spaces. The new station is designed to blend in with the residential character of the neighborhood.

The Panhandle area is currently served by Fire Station No. 51, located on Spalding Drive at Roberts Road, with support from Engine 55, housed at the City of Roswell’s Fire Station No. 27 on Holcomb Bridge Road. Response time to reach some areas within this district can take from 10 to 15 minutes.
