Understanding the Petition Process
When proposed development in Sandy Springs falls outside approved land uses or zoning regulations, developers may submit petitions to the City.
There are two primary petition processes in Sandy Springs:
Rezonings and Conditional Use Permits
Developers are required to hold community meetings both before and after filing a petition.
After the community meetings are completed, petitions for rezonings, use permits, and zoning ordinance amendments are reviewed by the Planning Commission.
Final decisions on petitions are made by the Mayor and City Council during regularly scheduled Mayor and City Council meetings.
Variances and Zoning Ordinance Modifications
After a developer submits a variance request or zoning ordinance modification petition, the petition is heard by the Board of Appeals during a regularly scheduled meeting.
