Places to Fish

The Chattahoochee River in Sandy Springs offers several opportunities for recreational fishing.

Anglers can fish from the pier at Morgan Falls Dam, along riverbanks within the Island Ford National Recreation Area, or by boat on various sections of the river.

Island Ford National Recreation Area also provides river access for fly fishing and wade fishing.

Chattahoochee River Boat Access

Morgan Falls Dam divides the Sandy Springs section of the Chattahoochee River into two primary fishing areas.

The river above the dam, known as Bull Sluice Lake, features slower-moving water with backwaters, peninsulas, and islands.

The river below the dam has a faster current but remains suitable for fishing boats and river access activities.

Boat Access Above the Dam

The upper section of the Chattahoochee River may be accessed using the boat ramp at Azalea Park in Roswell.

Boat Access Below the Dam

The lower section of the river may be accessed from:

  • The boat ramp located below Morgan Falls Dam
  • The boat ramp on the north side of the Johnson Ferry Road bridge

Fishing Licenses

A Georgia Fishing License is required to fish in public waterways in Georgia.
