Fire Extinguisher Training

The Community Affiars Office offers hands-on training in the use of fire extinguishers using a state-of-the-art fire extinguisher simulator.

Portable fire extinguishers are used to extinguish thousands of fires every year.  That’s why they are required in all commercial occupancies, public buildings, multi-family residential complexes and for special outdoor uses (gas stations, tents, hot tar roofing, etc.).  They are also highly recommended for private residences and in personal, service or cooking (food truck) vehicles, if not otherwise required.

All commercial fire extinguishers are required to be serviced annually by a state approved fire extinguisher servicing company. Extinguishers must have a service tag with the date of service punched on the card or decal.  If the date punched on the tag is over a year ago, then it needs to be serviced.

If you need to use a fire extinguisher remember the acronym PASS. It stands for P “pull” the pin, A “aim” the hose and nozzle at the base of the fire, S “squeeze” the handle downward slowly and S “sweep” the nozzle from side to side.
