Deep Search Release Notes

0.3.1 beta

(released August 14, 2025)

This release fixes broken links to documents associated with public meeting agenda items. In July 2025, CivicClerk introduced a time limit on document URLs obtained via their private API. When the time limit expires, the document URLs are no longer valid. To work around this issue, we updated Deep Search to substitute the document URL in Deep Search with one that is obtained from CivicClerk's public API.

0.3 beta

(released November 15, 2023)

This release brings the basic content types in Deep Search to parity with Instant Search and makes searching the website more intuitive to users. Deep Search now returns all the content types that Instant Search does plus Agenda Items. Deep search also looks inside documents on the City's website.

  • Page content type added to the Solr index (901) - Web pages have been added to the Deep Search index.
  • Events content type added to the Solr index (901) - Events have been added to the Deep Search index.
  • News content type added to the Solr index (901) - News has been added to the Deep Search index.
  • Places content type added to the Solr index (901) - Places have been added to the Deep Search index.
  • Page results templating (901)
  • Events results templating (901) - Additional context field: Date/date range of the event displayed.
  • News results templating (901) - Additional context field: Published date of the news article is displayed.
  • Place results templating (901)
  • Page, Events, News and Place Filters (901) - Added the Instant Search filters to the Deep Search experience.

0.2 beta

(released October 16, 2023)

  • Merging of Documents and Agenda Items in the Solr index (873) - Previously the user had to select a data source to search which caused user experience issues. In order to eliminate the selection interface, we had to merge the two content types in a single index. With the new index in place, we can display results in a single comingled list.
  • Add Document Name field to search - The previous build of Deep Search only queried the contents of the document. This build also queries the document name.
  • Changing search modes triggers new search (897) - Switching between search modes retriggers search to improve the experience for users wanting to compare the results returned by both systems. This change also makes the interface more intuitive.
  • Hide filters for Unused Content Types (903) - The webpage/event/news/place content type filters have been hidden temporarily to improve usability. These will be made available again when these content types are available in Deep Search.
  • Public Meeting Agenda Items filter (875) - Added a filter for the public meeting agenda content type.
  • Improved search algorithm - Ongoing improvements based on testing during development.

0.1 beta

(released August 14, 2023)

  • Initial beta release of the Deep Search tool which allows users to search within documents and public meeting agenda items.
