Apartment Complexes
The City of Sandy Springs is home to many apartment communities. To promote the health, safety, and well-being of residents, the City has established Apartment Inspection and Code Requirements that must be met before an apartment owner can obtain a City of Sandy Springs Occupational Tax Certificate (Business License).
To obtain a Sandy Springs Business License, apartment owners must provide a Compliance Certificate and Inspection Report covering 100 percent of individual rental units. Apartment owners must also provide proof of an annual fire hydrant inspection, including documentation of any repairs required as a result of that inspection.
Note: The Multi-Family Housing (Section 105) and Fire Safety (Section 22) ordinances have been updated. Review the Multi-Family Housing and Fire Safety Ordinance (PDF) and the Fire Safety Requirements Summary (PDF) for information about requirements that must be met before applying for a Sandy Springs Business License.
Code Enforcement Compliance
All tenant complaints must be investigated. If a complaint is substantiated, City Code Enforcement will issue a Notice of Violation and provide a reasonable period to correct the issue.
Note: If the City determines that a complaint involves a life-safety issue, a citation may be issued requiring an appearance in Municipal Court.
What Do I Do If I Receive a Notice of Violation?
Address the violation by the compliance date listed on the notice. Contact the officer who issued the notice if you have questions or additional information related to the violation. The goal of the process is to achieve compliance, correct violations, and close cases—not to issue citations.
What Do I Do If I Need More Time to Resolve the Problem?
Contact the officer assigned to your case and explain why an extension is needed. In most cases, an extension will be granted when reasonable efforts are being made to correct the violation.
