Wholesalers

Wholesalers selling alcoholic beverages to retailers in Sandy Springs are required to collect excise taxes. These excise taxes are required to be remitted to the City on or before the 15th day of each month, for the preceding calendar month, accompanied by a completed wholesale tax return form/s.

Wholesale Tax Return Forms

Failure to file a return/s, or to remit the tax, is grounds for suspension or revocation of the wholesaler’s license. Failure to pay by the due date will subject the licensee to the penalty and interest on the tax due.

Retailers

Retailers selling alcoholic beverages to the public in Sandy Springs are required to obtain an Alcoholic Beverage License. This requires an appearance at the Revenue Desk at City Hall.

Retailers selling liquor-by-the-drink to the public for consumption on premises in Sandy Springs are required to collect excise taxes. These excise taxes are required to be remitted to the City on or before the 20th day of each month, for the preceding calendar month, accompanied by a completed Retail Excise Tax Return on Liquor by the Drink .

When paid on or before the 20th of the month, the retailer may deduct and retain three percent of the first $3,000 of tax and one half percent of the amount of tax in excess of $3,000 as a vendor’s credit. Failure to pay by the due date will result in the loss of the vendor’s credit and incur penalties and interest as detailed on the tax return form.

Alternatively, you can file your Retail Excise Tax Return on Liquor by the Drink and submit payments online (5% processing fee applies).
