Sandy Springs 4-Minute Community AED Program
About the Program
The 4 Minute Community Program is an innovative approach designed to transform the way sudden cardiac arrest is addressed in the community. By leveraging historical data on sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in specific areas, the initiative will equip CPR-trained citizen volunteers in the City of Sandy Springs with Avive Connect AEDs, advanced connected defibrillators.
Sandy Springs' 4 Minute Community™ Program empowers citizens with the tools and training to bridge the gap between the moment of collapse and the arrival of professional help. By creating a network of Avive Connect AEDs and trained citizens, the program is building a safer, more proactive community — ensuring that when someone needs lifesaving help, there are neighbors ready to respond. When sudden cardiac arrest strikes, every second matters. Immediate action from nearby individuals is critical.
Ultimately, the 4 Minute Community Program will work to strategically place 200 AEDs in the hands of trained individuals in the community, increasing bystander intervention and providing rapid response when time matters most.
The launch of the program is made possible through a generous donation of more than 100 Avive Connect AEDs by the Northside Hospital Foundation and Northside Hospital Heart Institute.
CARE (Cardiac Arrest Rapid Engagement)
The goal of this initiative is to reduce deaths from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest by minimizing the time to defibrillation. This will be achieved by deploying strategically positioned citizen volunteers with AEDs, known as the Cardiac Arrest Rapid Engagement (CARE) Team.
CARE team members will:
- Learn CPR and will be issued an Avive Connect AED
- Attend resuscitation and AED skills training
- Be part of a community team aimed at saving more lives from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
