The Sandy Springs Police Department offers Teen Driving Classes  8 -10 times per year.The class is limited to 15-20 teens and their parents, and is designed for 14 ½ to 17 year-olds who are about to get, or have recently received their learner’s permit or Class D license.

The class covers crash dynamics, occupant protection,TADRA* and Joshua’s Law, coaching techniques for parents, high risk behaviors of teen drivers, criminal and civil legal concerns, and distracted driving. There are no age requirements or license requirements as the entire session is in the classroom. There is no actual driving.

  1. Crash dynamics, occupant protection, and TADRA* (parents and teens together)
  2. Breakout session with parents on one room and teens in another. Parents discuss principles of coaching and other driving tips and students discuss high risk behaviors and dangers.
  3. Distracted Driving (parents and teens back together)
*Teenage & Adult Driver Responsibility Act (TADRA) - is a graduated driver's license program for young drivers ages 15 to 18. It was established in Georgia by a collaborative effort of highway safety advocates, legislators, law enforcement officials, educators, businesses and media in the wake of a high number of fatal vehicle crashes involving young, inexperienced drivers.
