Zip Up Sandy Springs

Are You Paying Too Much Sales Tax?

Have you ever purchased an item online and had a website inform you that your Sandy Springs address is incorrect? Chances are that it forced you to enter “Atlanta” instead of “Sandy Springs.” No big deal, right? Wrong. You were charged 8 percent Atlanta sales tax instead of 7 percent Sandy Springs sales tax.

Retail websites obtain “Preferred Last Line” address information from a United States Postal Service database. The Postal Service will only update this database with the support of Sandy Springs residents and businesses.

Later this year, the U.S. Postal Service will be asking Sandy Springs businesses and residents, via a mailed survey, to vote YES or No on changing the default Preferred Last Line in its database to Sandy Springs.

Why Vote Yes?

Community Identity - Sandy Springs residents and businesses should be able to use Sandy Springs as their postal default city.

Public Safety Matters - Ensure the $1.50 paid from each monthly telephone bill supports Sandy Springs’ 911 services.

Money - The sales tax in Atlanta is 8% versus 7% in Sandy Springs. Sandy Springs residents shouldn’t pay more than needed.

Will Businesses Be Required To Change Their Address from Atlanta To Sandy Springs?

No. Atlanta will still be recognized by the Postal Service for businesses and residences in Sandy Springs. Businesses and residents can choose which city they would like to list in their address.

Will Zip Codes Change?

No. The ZIP codes in Sandy Springs will remain the same.
