Project Description

The project will include the construction of additional width on the northbound side of the existing bridge. This will allow for two, 11’ wide, northbound and southbound travel lanes as well as a full, 11’ wide, dedicated left turn lanes onto entrance ramps for I-285. Additional width to the westbound and eastbound on ramps for I-285 will be constructed to accommodate dual ramp meters and additional storage capacity. Short sections of concrete raised median are also proposed at both ends of the bridge to improve operational circulation.

Project Status

July 2012 - Contractor has completed placing deck steel and GDOT is performing reinforcement steel clearance checks in anticipation of a deck pour this week.

4/25/2012:

  • Temporary barrier wall has been set and demolition of existing sidewalk and fence on the bridge will follow setting of beams in a couple of weeks. Demolition will occur at night and will be noisy.

  • Demolition of the bridge will occur after the new bridge beams are in place. Protective platforms will have to be constructed on the new beams to protect I-285 traffic during demolition.

  • As the contractor installs new conduit to maintain existing ramp meters, subgrade construction on each of the ramps will begin.

  • Contractor is currently working on the forming of end bents (supports) at each end of the bridge.  South side end bent has been constructed. North side is in progress.

  • Contractor completed pouring south side end row slope paving.

2/29/2012:

  • The contractor has completed the initial shifting of travel lanes on I-285 in preparation for the project.

Project Schedule
