For Immediate Release

Water Main Break to Affect Sandy Springs

Release Date: 2/16/2007

Due to a City of Atlanta water main break (48") off of Georgia 400, the City of Sandy Springs will be experiencing a low water pressure event during the next 24 to 48 hours and the Fire Department is asking for your assistance.

We recommend, at a minimum, that the following buildings conduct a firewatch during this event: assisted living facilities, hotels, high rise buildings, and apartment complexes. We have already contacted all of the assisted living facilities and hotels by phone and are contacting apartment complexes currently.

A firewatch for the purpose of this event consists of walking the building periodically (every hour or two) looking for signs of a fire and calling 911 immediately and alerting occupants if you discover a fire. Remember to tell the 911 dispatcher who you are, your address, and what your emergency is.

The City of Sandy Springs Fire Department is taking steps to be prepared including requesting 5 tankers from the Georgia Mutual Aid group and bringing in extra firefighters to be on-duty during this event.

For more information, call 770-730-5600.
