City Seeks Input From Community on Vision for the Future

Public Input Meetings Will Solicit Ideas for Land Use, Recreation, Development and More

Release Date: 1/27/2007

On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, Sandy Springs residents and business-owners are invited to provide input on their “visions” for the City’s future. Because of the different landscape and needs of residents in the northern and southern ends of the City, the Jan. 31 meeting will focus discussion on the area of Sandy Springs north of Abernathy Road. On Feb. 1, discussion will focus on all areas south of Abernathy, including the downtown business district and the Roswell Road and I-285 interchange area.

“Our first phase of the Comprehensive Plan visioning process was primarily a data-collection process,” said Vann McNeill, deputy director of Community Development. “We have learned about the current state of our City. Our second phase will involve hearing from the public what they would like to see in store for the future, or what they envision.”

Previous Comprehensive Plan meetings the City has held from July—December have often involved discussion of existing conditions in the City. In contrast, the Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 meetings will consider all topics, from Roswell Road redevelopment and future land use policies to recreation and parkland needs. The meetings will function as an “open house”, allowing attendees to visit with staff from all major City departments and private planning consultants and review maps, ask questions and make suggestions for future City policies related to these critical areas.

Open house components of each meeting will take place from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Sandy Springs City Hall, 7840 Roswell Road, Building 500. An “open mic” format for public comments will run from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. All information shared will be recorded and considered during the development of the Community Agenda for the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The City has also set up individual topic-area email accounts so the public can communicate virtually with staff and consultants. For a list of email addresses, please visit www.sandyspringsga.org.

For more information about the forthcoming meetings, please contact Vann McNeill at 770206-2019 or vann.mcneill@sandyspringsga.org.
