Graphic Designer and Multimedia Specialist
Reports to: Visual Communications Manager and the Director of Communications
The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a talented graphic designer to join its team of creatives. Our Communications Department operates as a full-service marketing and public relations agency working in a variety of mediums including print, video, web and other digital platforms. The Department supports all other departments within the City of Sandy Springs, including the City Manager’s office, Mayor and Council, City Springs and the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Community Development (Building, Code Enforcement and Development), Economic Development, Finance, Police and Fire. With such a varied range of “clients,” the work overseen by the Communications team is wide-ranging and constantly changing. It is a fast-paced environment, requiring attention to detail and flexibility in prioritization.
The Graphic Designer and Multimedia Specialist is tasked with developing clean and professional design that complements and furthers the City’s brands. Print design projects will include collateral (brochures, newsletters, flyers, reports etc.), street banners, posters and newspaper/magazine advertisements. Digital design projects will include promotional webpages, social media promotions, digital signage and PowerPoint presentations.
Excellent graphic design skills are paramount. Candidates must demonstrate a natural aptitude for graphic design as well as technical knowledge. The ability to utilize marketing best practices to create compelling advertisements/promotional materials is essential.
Required Software Skills
• An in-depth knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is required
• A working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop for basic image manipulation is required
Required Professional Skills
• Excellent design project organizational skills including adhering to best practices in project file management and the ability to follow Sandy Springs file management policies
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills
• Excellent research, time and program management skills
• Demonstrated competency to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, set priorities and determine objectives and strategies to achieve them
• Ability to deal with conflict and difficult situations with short deadlines
• Ability to establish rapport quickly with people at all levels of the City and our community
As a small creative team, we utilize all our members’ extended skill sets. Ongoing skills development is encouraged and supported. The following skills are not required, but are viewed as a highly desirable, desirable or beneficial:
Highly Desirable Skills
Photography: Ability to shoot with a DSLR camera beyond its automatic setting is highly desirable.
Photo Post Production: Ability to perform advanced creative editing to photos in Adobe RAW and Adobe Photoshop is highly desirable.
Videography and Audio: Ability to use a DSLR camera to capture footage for promotional videos, and record interviews and B-Roll is highly desirable.
Video Editing: Ability to edit video and audio to create professional short-format videos with proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition is highly desirable.
Animation: Ability to create commercially oriented animations for video, web and digital signage with proficiency in Adobe After Effects and/or Adobe Animate is desirable.
Web Development: Ability to take promotional webpages to the next level by introducing interactivity and responsiveness through HTML/CSS programming and assist with the City’s larger web-development projects is desirable.
Promotional Copy Writing: Ability to write compelling promotional copy is beneficial.
Experience and Qualifications
• Experience working as a Graphic Designer is required (applicants should submit an online portfolio to demonstrate their ability)
• Valid Georgia motor vehicle operator’s license is required
The position is a full time. From time to time, work hours will include nights and weekends as needed for meetings and events.
