Martin Luther King Day Celebration

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the City’s annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. scheduled for Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. at a new location this year: Heritage Sandy Springs, located at 6110 Blue Stone Road, Sandy Springs, Ga.

Now in its 12th year, the event will celebrate the spirit of Dr. King and reflect the diversity of the community.  Each day, throughout the City’s many non-profit organizations, volunteers give of their time, talent and treasure. This year, the tribute to Dr. King will acknowledge members of our community who make a difference in the lives of children every day. These unsung heroes are the volunteers that donate countless hours to the Sandy Springs Mission, an organization that is dedicated to helping and inspiring needing students from the Sandy Springs community. Attendees are encouraged to bring a children’s book to the event that will be donated to the Sandy Springs Mission. The event will also include reading to the children, demonstrating ways volunteers can help.

“Dr. King believed that even the smallest amount of encouragement and support to help someone matters. It is fitting that we use this day to acknowledge the many who give of themselves by volunteering, and at the same time, inform the community on opportunities where they, too, can get involved,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.

Sandy Springs businessman Oz Hill returns as emcee.  Mr. Hill is the principal and Chief Executive Officer of International Security Solutions Inc., a full-service security consulting, planning and program management corporation. Pastor Henry Bush of Sharon Community United Methodist Church will provide inspirational thoughts and the challenge for all to continue Dr. King’s essential work. Both men have been a part of the City’s MLK Day Celebration since the event’s inception.
